Næstved Museum Helligåndshuset

The medieval building, Helligåndshuset - "House of the Holy Spirit" - served in former times as a combined hospital, old people's home and poorhouse.

After a thorough restoration in 1926-27 it became home of the Naestved Museum. It contain the regional historical collections of Naestved municipality

Næstved Museum Helligåndshuset "House of the Holy Spirit" is the only preserved House of the Holy Spirit in Denmark.

In the House of the Holy Spirit you will find Naestved's history from the Ice Age to the present, as well as cultural-historical exhibitions related to Naestved's history.

In the Middle Ages there were holy spirit houses in many market towns and they served as a hospital and nursing home for the poor. Volunteers cared for orphans, lost children, and the sick and the elderly.

In 1926-27 the House of the Holy Spirit in Næstved was restored and has since then served as a museum.
