The congregation of the Birkebjerg Church in Næstved was founded in 1928 and since then, has contributed a strong Christian influence on the city and the local community In 1992, the City Hall Church was sold. The congregation bought two houses in Tommerup Way and built a church hall between them. In August, 1994, the Birkebjerg Church was completed and now serves as a modern, user-friendly building for Sunday services and other events during the week, such as concerts, lessons, meetings, exhibits, lectures, social organizations and much more.

The congregation is affiliated with the Danish Mission Society, a Free Church with independent congregations scattered throughout the entire country. Through the Danish Mission Society, the Birkebjerg Church engages in social work on Greenland, in Ghana, Romania and Thailand. The church is also affiliated with an inter-church collaboration within the city.

As in other evangelical churches in Denmark, the belief principals of the congregation are based on the Bible and the apostolic statement of faith. On this foundation, the congregation seeks to be an active and current mediator of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
